Chance to shine launch
The new partnership, between The Prince's
Trust and The Cricket Foundation’s programme Chance to shine, is to
help 14 to 16-year-olds who are at risk of truanting or
under-achieving at school to get involved with cricket.
Prince’s Trust Ambassadors
Paul Smith and Colin Salmon launched The Prince's Trust Chance to
shine xl programme at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Paul Smith, Prince’s Trust Ambassador and former cricketer said:
“Cricket is based on team values, respect and motivation, bringing
together individuals to create a winning team. In the same way, The
Trust helps young people who are struggling at school by making
them feel part of something and giving them the skills to move
forward.”
The young people were given an introduction to the game of
cricket through multiple coaching sessions, meeting players and
educational materials. The course aims is to improve the
attendance, self-esteem, motivation and social skills of the pupils
in their last two years of school.
Nick Smith, Head of Sport at The Prince’s Trust said ‘It’s
brilliant to see how such an innovative use of cricket has helped
engage and motivate the hardest to reach young people. We look
forward to running 10 programmes in partnership with Chance to
shine to benefit even more young people in the UK’.
