Looking for a job?
The Prince's Trust has put together a list of
great tips that come in very handy when you are looking for a
job.
- Stay in education or training if that is an option. Now might
be a good time to get some qualifications while you wait for the
jobs market to recover.
- Get some work experience in the industry you are interested in.
Try to spend the day shadowing someone with your ideal job and find
out what they did to get there.
- Volunteer. Now more than ever employers are interested in what
volunteering you have done. Sometimes it can be more relevant than
your work history.
- Improve your CV. Get a family member or friend to have a look
at it. You can also usually get help from connexions or your local
jobcentre.
- Keep motivated. It is an undoubtedly hard time at the moment
but there are jobs out there. Keep busy, find things enjoy and that
interest you. Keep your mind active.
- Be realistic about the job you want. Very few people make it to
play in the Premier League but there are thousands of jobs in
sports-coaching in schools and youth centres.
- Network. Try to meet people in the industry you want to work
in. Speak to friends and family members who might have
contacts.
- Do a Prince’s Trust course! Three in four young people who
complete a Trust programme go on to work,
education or training. Call us on 0800 842
