July 2010
The real racing experience at Ffos Las Racecourse
A group of students from the Llanelli based
Smart Project will attend a ‘Racing Experience Day’ at Ffos Las
Racecourse on Monday 12th July 2010, as the result of a partnership
implemented between The Prince’s Trust and the British Horseracing
Authority (BHA).
For the students on the xl programme at Sir Henry Cooper School
the day was a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the
employment opportunities that surround such a large event.
This unique opportunity to gain an insight
into how a day at the races works began with an introduction from
Racecourse General Manager, Tim Long, and was followed by a number
of sessions with the people who contribute in different ways to the
running of a raceday. The students also visited
the Stable Yard, before walking the track with the Clerk
of the Course, visiting the Weighing Rooms and accompanying
the Starter of the race to his position.
Ffos Las Racecourse has a strong commitment to
the local area and are glad to welcome students from the local
Smart Project and take them on a behind-the-scenes tour of our
exciting sport. We hope that this excellent partnership with The
Prince’s Trust continues to benefit many more students and that
they will take away a few ideas about the opportunities that exist
for them in the world of horseracing.
