Shortlisted businesses

Supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), The Prince’s Trust’s unique competition, 'Go for Growth', to inspire and help young businesses grow is well underway!

These businesses have already demonstrated great potential and now with the help of the specialist resources and bespoke support packages, they have a fantastic opportunity to grow.

The final winner will be determined by a panel that will assess their overall progress and performance against specific business targets over a six month period. Find out more about the businesses:

  • In 2009, Ronke Ige from Greenwich had been freelancing in public relations, but struggled to secure work when the recession hit, and had been out of work for a year before getting help from The Prince’s Trust.
  • Twenty-eight-year-old Joe from Hounslow always hoped that one day he would be able to be his own boss. However, after leaving school at 16 with no qualifications, he didn’t know how to turn his dream into a reality.
  • Josh was made redundant from his job as a web designer during the recession. In a tough jobs market, he struggled to find work and was unemployed for six months.
  • Thirty-year-old Andres Vasco from Camden was unemployed for four months before getting help from The Prince’s Trust to set up his own business.
  • Phil Pinnell from Dulwich came up with his business idea when he was a student, struggling to eat decent, healthy meals while living alone.
  • Twenty-five-year-old Gervaise Linel from Tower Hamlets always hoped that one day she would be able to start her own business.
  • Jarred, from Mitcham, South London, saw starting his own business as a way out of a potentially violent life. He worked hard to come up with an idea, but only the Princes Trust backed him to make it a success.
  • In 2008 30-year-old Michael Kasar moved to London from Australia. As a qualified estate agent he hoped that his skills and experience would enable him to continue a career as a property manager in the UK.
  • Thirty-one-year-old Janina from Lambeth had been looking for work for a year before getting help from The Prince’s Trust to set up her own business.
  • After struggling to find a job in the fashion industry, Johnette went to the Princes Trust for the support she needed to start her own fashion accessories company.
  • Shereen had been out of work for a year before contacting the Princes Trust, who provided the resources she needed to set up her own business.
