Winsford young people sow seeds for the future
Team 17 at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service
has been sowing seeds for the future of the community by beginning
a bio-diversity garden.
The garden is being created for all parts of the community
to enjoy. The roots of the garden have been put down at Service
headquarters in Winsford, an organic project for community groups
to enjoy, grow and harvest produce and encourage wildlife. The
project forms part of The Prince's Trust 12-week Team programme, designed to help young
people gain positive life skills and recognised qualifications.
Winsford Mayor, Cllr Pam Booher, joined the 18-strong team of
young people at the official launch of the community garden
recently where she presented each Team member with their Community
Project certificates.
Nick Evans, Group Manager responsible for Youth Engagement,
says:
The Prince's Trust programme helps develop
young people's skills and confidence through practical community
projects and work experience. The primary focus is team work on a
project that will benefit local neighbourhoods. The Winsford
community garden is a prime example as not only will future Teams
be able to build on the groundwork done by Team 17, but other
groups will be able to work and relax there.
The qualifications that can be gained on The Prince's Trust Team
programmes include City & Guilds Certificate in Personal
Development and Contributing to the Community, First Aid (HSE
Registered) and Level 2 award in Food Safety in catering. These can
help towards future employement, as well as providing many
other experiences that will greatly improve future prospects for
employment, education and training.
Other activities include team-building exercises, work in the
local community and a residential week.
