Budding young chefs face Halloween challenge
Twelve budding young chefs recently had the
chance to put their skills to the ultimate test – cooking for twice
Michelin starred chef Martin Wishart and eleven of his staff.
The twelve who are participants on The Trust’s
Get Into Cooking programme delivered by The Cook School Scotland
created lunch for Mr Wishart, who has Michelin stars at his
Restaurant Martin Wishart in Edinburgh and his newer venture on the
banks of Loch Lomond.
The 12 young people have been learning about
all aspects of food preparation in Kilmarnock under the watchful
eye of The Cook School Scotland head chef Phil Lewis.
They were tasked with cooking to impress their
toughest critics before receiving valuable feedback from industry
professionals.
Ken Imrie, Head of Programme Delivery at The
Prince’s Trust commented,
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the
young people completing the programme. In addition to the
first-class training they have received at The Cook School, to have
the chance to cook for some of Scotland’s leading chefs and get
their feedback is fantastic. The experiences the young people gain
on this programme will be incredibly valuable as they move forward
into a career in catering.”
Funding from East Ayrshire Council, The Wood
Family Trust and the European Social Fund has enabled the Prince’s
Trust to establish this programme in East Ayrshire, helping to
reach some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged young people.
