Getting Started with the Warriors
February and March saw The Prince’s Trust run
the first ever ‘Get Started with Rugby’ courses delivered in
partnership with Worcester Warriors Rugby Club at the Sixways
Stadium.
Get Started is a one week
course that uses a theme to engage young people, enabling them to
achieve a qualification and build key work-place skills such as
confidence, motivation, communication and teamwork.
20 young people aged between 16 and 25 took part in this new
programme. They all achieved the RFU’s Tag Rugby Award and an
Emergency First Aid certificate delivered by Steve Joslin and Nick
Baxter from the Warriors Community Dept.
They will now receive support and progression advice from
Prince’s Trust staff to help them access further education,
training, volunteering or employment opportunities. The programme
was funded jointly by private enterprise and Sport England.
I enjoyed meeting Nick, Steve and Tim. I have a
lot of respect for them and hope I can follow in their footsteps
and walk like a Warrior. I feel I have gained a lot from this
course and I have a growing passion for the game.

Steve Joslin, Community Rugby Manager at Worcester Warriors,
said: "The Get started with Rugby programme has given these 20
youngsters a great opportunity to develop their self confidence and
allowed them to pick up important life skills and qualifications
that will help them step onto the employment or further education
ladder. It was great to see how much more positive and confident
they became as the week progressed."
