Fire fighting for The Prince
Ben Rainey
took part in Team, The Trust's 12-week personal development
programme. He talks about the work experience he completed as part
of Team:
"For weeks seven and eight we had to do a work experience
placement. During those two weeks six of us got selected
to go to Dorchester Fire Station to meet The Prince of Wales, who
was visiting to officially open the new station.
"Our day entailed doing a couple of fire-fighter-based
activities including how to put out a fire using hoses and
apparatus. The highlight of the day was meeting The Prince of
Wales. We had to carry out a drill while The Prince was watching
(pressure or what!).
"After the
drill we had to stand to attention as the Prince came to talk to
us. We all individually spoke to him and had a little laugh with
him before he had to go and do a speech. After that the fire
fighters we had been training with chucked bags over our heads so
we couldn’t see and put us into a building to save a casualty (all
fun though!).
"The day was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and has changed my
career choice to becoming a fire fighter."
