Areas which are eligible for support are:
- Northern Dales plus – The whole of Richmondshire and Hambleton
Districts.
- Southern Dales – The whole of Craven & Harrogate Districts,
excluding Harrogate, town centre.
- North Yorkshire Moors – The whole of Ryedale and Scarborough
Districts excluding Scarborough Town
- Rural Selby – The whole of Selby District.
- Rural East Riding – All the East Riding, excluding Bridlington
Town and Goole.
- North Lincolnshire plus – All North Lincs (excluding
Scunthorpe) plus rural wards in North East Lincs and the rural
wards of Doncaster MBC.
- Yorkshire Pennines – Rural parts of West and South Yorkshire,
stretching from the northern outskirts of Bradford down to North
West Sheffield. From Ilkely, Silsden, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden
in the north, down to Holmfirth, Penistone and Stocksbridge in the
south.
About the project
The ROSE project aims to increase support for
young people in the rural areas of Yorkshire & Humber who want
to pursue opportunities for self employment.
The project has been running for seven years with
Yorkshire Forward support, contributing to the resilience of the
rural economy as well as making a positive contribution to many
hundreds of young people’s lives.
Based on a recent evaluation of the project, undertaken on
behalf of Yorkshire Forward by ERS, 73% of beneficiaries surveyed
now running their business said that the ROSE project had been
crucial or a major influence in starting up their business.
- 109 jobs created in 95 new businesses in 2008/09
- 380 jobs created in 331 new businesses between 2005-2009
Aims
The overall aims are to:
- Develop the enterprise culture among young people in rural
areas
- Increase the opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the rural
parts of Yorkshire and the Humber
- Retain enterprising young people in the region’s rural
areas
- Reduce rural isolation among young entrepreneurs and maximise
business survival rates
- support young people looking to start businesses or move into
self-employment
