RBS Technology Services give young people a restart
A team of volunteers from RBS Technology
Services in Aldgate Union hosted a week long work placement for
three young people from The Prince’s Trust.
The students met with volunteers from Technology Services
throughout the week to learn more about working in the Bank and the
different roles that are available. They worked through the project
life cycle that they were assigned and covered: project
management, requirement building, analysis / design, testing,
change management and live support.
Various tasks and activities were set for the students. They
worked on these throughout the week and delivered a final
presentation on the last day to RBS staff.
I had a really good week with the students from
The Prince’s Trust. They were keen to learn and made me appreciate
the things that we take for granted in our environment. They valued
things like how impressive our offices are, how nice everyone was
to them and how interesting they found the job that we do. Everyone
involved enjoyed their visit and the feeling of putting something
back into the community.
Greg Cook, RBS Technology
Services
Before I walked in to this office I didn't
really have a clue about what I wanted to do with my life, now
after just one week in this environment I have a drive and
understanding to pursue a career in banking. This opportunity has
been one of the best experiences I have had. I would like to thank
everybody who has made this possible. I would especially like to
thank Greg Cook for looking after me and the rest of my team
members."
Adam Slammon, former
Prince's Trust Team participant
Both the young people and the volunteers involved got a great
deal out of their involvement with the programme. RBS are now
planning on running the work placements across the country in
Edinburgh, London and Kegworth.
Thank you to Greg Cook and his team at RBS Technology Services
for taking part in the Just the Job programme and for their ongoing
support.
