CSC and The Prince's Trust:
Changing young lives together
CSC are Patron supporters of the Technology
Leadership Group, and also give the opportunity to their employees
to get involved in a huge range of activities to support The
Prince’s Trust.
In 2010 CSC raised over £150,000 for The Prince’s Trust
surpassing their first year’s total.
CSC’s have taken on every Prince’s Trust challenge thrown at
them and really bought the partnership to life for their employees.
How did they do it? By supporting events which their employees
could easily engage with and gain something from.
Challenges for every level
CSC got involved in a huge range of activities
in 2010 including:
- The Himalayan Action Challenge where 12 employees raised £39K
then hiked, biked and whitewater rafted 320 kilometers in seven
days in the foothills of the Himalayas
- The Enterprise Challenge where 5 employees created an online
auction raising around £5K
- Wild UK where 17 employees raised £15K then hiked, biked and
kayaked 100 miles in 3 days, coast-to-coast across Somerset and
Devon, racing against other teams and the clock
- Women’s China Challenge where one employee took on the
challenge of a life time and raised in doing so £3,500
- Palace to Palace where employees raised nearly £1,000 to take
part in this bike ride
On top of this employees also signed up to
volunteer, running one day workshops for Prince’s Trust young
people to help them develop key skills such as interview
technique
Employees were
also given the opportunity of getting involved in a testing
challenge, advancing their business skills and offering them an
opportunity to network within CSC, by being a part of Million
Makers. The Million Makers challenge is to raise £10,000 from
£1,500 seed funding over six months.
A group of employees from CSC formed
‘Team Twenty Ten’ to compete in the competition against other
companies from across the UK. The team worked hard to put their
plans into action; which paid off as the team raised over £55,000
at a Gala Ball hosted at Ascot Racecourse. The event proved to be a
highlight of the year and a new fixture in the company’s social
calendar.
A highlight of the happy event was that the
Prince’s Trust ambassador for the evening, Paul Craggs was offered
full-time employment with resourcing company The SJB Group, a major
sponsor of the ball. He started work with The SJB Group on 15
November 2010.
Record of success
CSCs employees did fantastically well raising
money to help change the lives of the UK's most disadvantaged young
people.
In recognition of the tremendous efforts of
CSC employees in 2010 CSC won the ‘Soup to Nuts’ award at this
year’s Technology Leadership Group Employee Awards. This award
recognised the top organisation supporting The Trust across the
broadest range of activities. Despite the economic climate, CSC got
involved in this huge range of activities for The Trust, having
raised a fantastic £150,000 in 2010.
CSC is not resting on its laurels though; they
already have a date in the diary to launch next year’s employee
activities. Given their approach to the partnership we’re sure they
will achieve it.
