Starbucks and The Prince’s Trust
As a Platinum Patron of The Trust, Starbucks
has pledged £1 million to help unemployed young people on Team
develop the skills, confidence and work experience to get a job or
secure training.
In the UK, Starbucks have a strong focus on supporting young
people and their communities. They also want to offer short-term
volunteering opportunities to their employees to build their
skills. As Starbucks have stores all over the UK, they needed to
partner with a charity that has a nationwide presence. The Prince’s
Trust has proved to be a natural fit.

In 2008, The Prince’s Trust and Starbucks Coffee
Company launched an exciting five-year partnership to transform the
lives of thousands of young people in the UK. Starbucks’ support
focuses on our Team programme, which runs in communities throughout
the UK and supports around 9,000 young people each year. The
programme also offers one-day volunteering opportunities for
Starbucks employees, who run interview and CV writing workshops
with our young people.
Having the support of a company like Starbucks
is an exceptional opportunity for The Prince’s Trust, enabling us
to help more disadvantaged young people into work, which is
particularly important during the economic downturn.
- Martina Milburn, Chief Executive, The Prince’s Trust
Starbucks have launched a number of exciting initiatives with
The Prince's Trust throughout the partnership.
Inspired* by Music
To mark this exciting partnership, a unique book, sponsored by
Starbucks, was launched and sold in Starbucks coffeehouses to raise
funds for The Prince’s Trust. Inspired* by Music features A-list
celebrities including Al Pacino, Boris Johnson, Take That and
Sharon Osbourne as well as young people, sharing stories
of the songs which have most inspired them. Profits from the sale
of the book were donated to The Prince’s Trust.
Starbucks Partners – supporting our young
people
Since the partnership was launched, over 150 Starbucks Partners
have volunteered for The Trust and many more have raised
much-needed funds for this vital cause through skydives,
coffeehouse parties and participating in Prince’s Trust events such
as Million Makers.
It is a really challenging project but takes
you out of your ordinary "work mode" and allows you to get creative
and really push our business ideas we all have inside our heads.
Working with other Partners has been a fantastic team building
event and allowed us all to broaden our skills which in turn has
strengthened our own roles within Starbucks.
